Un livre à découvrirINTRODUCTION : En lisant cet ouvrage historique, que nous pensons réaliste puisque toutes les recherches ont été effectuées aux Archives Départementales, vous découvrirez ce que fut de 1855 à 1906 le pénitencier agricole de Chiavari qui restera pour cette région toute une histoire. Les ruines de ce pénitencier sont situées à mi-chemin entre Verghia et Coti-Chiavari à 30 km au sud d'Ajaccio, sur un grand plateau qui possède une vue inégalable sur le golfe, avec un doux parfum de cystes et d'eucalyptus.
Les Corses de cette région parlent encore de ce pénitencier avec amertume et regrettent que tout ait été détruit, que ce domaine reste inexploité et à l'abandon. Ce domaine appartient de nos jours [en 1989] à la Société du Lotissement du Domaine de la Pinède qui, en 1969, détruisit le pénitencier, ayant pour projet de faire un complexe touristique. Ce projet fut abandonné et les lieux reprirent leur état sauvage.
